General English

Our general English classes improve your ability to use and understand English, and help you with your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, as well as developing your grammar and vocabulary.

Course Aims

Our English courses should:

enable you to develop effective communication skillshelp you improve both accuracy and fluency of language usebuild your confidence and ability to use and understand language outside the classroomencourage you to develop self-study skills 

All visa students are required to demonstrate their improvement in English during their studies. At WLBC our courses are designed to prepare students for the Cambridge English Language exams. Please visit the Cambridge Exam website for further information about these exams. All visa students are required to sit one these exams. Our dedicated team of exam teachers and office staff will ensure that you are ready when you decide to take the exam.


Course Levels

New students take a placement test to check their level. We offer 8 levels:









At the end of each course you will be given a level change test to see if you are ready to move up to the next level. After completing FCE, CAE and CPE levels you can take an internationally recognised Cambridge exam. Exams are taken externally and the cost of £85-£95 is not included in the course fee.

Course Times and Cost

Courses include 21 hours of study per week. This is comprised of 15 hours tuition at the school and 6 hours self study at home, usually 45 minutes per day from Monday to Thursday and 3 hours at the weekend. Classes are held daily from Monday to Friday. Each class contains a 20 minute tutorial when academic issues can be discussed with your teacher. Classes are taught at the following times:

Course Material is included in the course fees as below, and includes a Coursebook and Workbook, plus a Practice Test Book for FCE, CAE and CPE levels.







 




* Non UK resident students are classified as students who are applying from outside of the United Kingdom.

** UK resident students are classified as students who are living in the United Kingdom and / or have the necessary documentation to study in the United Kingdom.

 After 6 months of study students qualify for the UK Resident Student fees.


Class Size and Attendance Requirements

The maximum class size is 20 and the average class size is 14. You may lose your place in the class if you do not attend 80% of your lessons.
